The Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) is part of the Residential Hospice Palliative team providing the highest standard of palliative, end-of-life care to our residential guests and their families.  Shifts are 12 hours 8 a.m. – 8 p.m. (Days) or 8 p.m. – 8 a.m. (Nights). Availability for both shifts is essential. The RPN works in support of the Registered Nurse leading the shift team within the scope of practice according to the College of Nursing Standards and will work collaboratively with all team members, the palliative physician and interdisciplinary team. The RPN will understand the inherent demands of the specialty of palliative and end-of-life nursing and be flexible to engage in all required tasks associated with ‘total care’ of the person. Applicants with specialty training in pain and symptom management are preferred and an understanding of the Model to Guide Hospice Palliative Care is required.

Education and experience

  • Proof of current registration and status with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
  • Interpersonal skills and ability to work with residents and their families
  • Minimum of two (2) years nursing practice in dedicated palliative and end-of-life care
  • Experience working with volunteers preferable.
  • Preferred CAPCE Certificate or willingness to complete
