Summer Day Camp Nurse

Day Camp Nurse Position

  • Member of the Robin Aid (camp health centre) team
  • Reports to the Director of Health and Wellness
  • On-site and available in Robin aid daily from 8:30 am – 4:40 pm
  • Epinephrine Auto Injector management 
  • Prepares for, teaches and participates in all Pre-Camp training, with Robin Aid team
  • Assist with set up of Robin Aid prior to camp – unpack from winter storage
  • Assist in sharing of camper health / medical information with staff as needed in precamp and before each session
  • Participate in Robin Aid morning meetings
  • Documentation as per the College of Nurses in the Health Visit portion of the Camp Brain, contact log, incident sheets, etc
  • Medication entering in EMR - Camp Brian and MARS
  • Medication Administration
  • Assist with triage campers and staff, as required, on a rotational basis
  • Promoting healthy living and caring for those who are ill, injured, and homesick, within scope of practise
  • Providing First Aid for minor injuries and illnesses, examples include:
    • Cuts, scrapes and bruises
    • Bee stings
    • Splinter / sliver removal
    • Dehydration and sunburn
  • Providing emergent / urgent care
  • Communication with parents
  • Tidy rooms / beds / treatment room after use
  • Report when stock is low, restock supplies
  • Other duties as required

 

PERSONAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A mature, self-directed individual with the ability to work independently and part of a team
  • Excellent communication skills both spoken and written in English
  • Is flexible and has integrity
  • Good judgment and ability for critical thinking in a busy setting and in emergency situations 
  • Ability to work in pressured situations both indoors and outdoors

 

PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • An RN or RPN, in good standing with the CON
  • Preference given to those with experience in Pediatrics, Outpatients, Emergency
  • Knowledge of and able to work in Excel and Word
  • Knowledge and experience in camp health is an asset
  • Current C.P.R. HCP, Standard First Aid Certificates; WHIMIS certification
  • Must have liability insurance through RNAO or similar professional association as per the CON requirements
